Fantasies of Hubris and Bestial Schadenfreude

A mix of pen and digital drawing - beasts and beast men- always a pleasure to draw - they do well to represent some horrific and fantastic flood of chaos stampeding over human some damnable civilisation. fantasies of hubris and schadenfreude

A month of much work and just the condensed chaos of usual. But good commissions and some new things learnt albeit small and well as far as art techniques go I am always playing catchup, trying to piece together something worthwhile. Guides only help so far - books like Digital Painting Techniques series are great for pointers here and there but then there are articles where the artist just skips over whole stages or just gives a picture and no explanation. I am still also wondering what is generally good res to work at? 300DPI? 450 DPI 600? This is something that no book seems to detail.

Perhaps I could ask on a forum somewhere but such things feel one with anxiety and despair, seeing so many great artists doing their stuff - I wish there was some industrry here for digital in Melbourne, Australia but it all seems to be overseas. I want to just do art all day every day, so much as I say always to learn, to further finish, to conceptualise etc etc etc.

So many ideas, perhaps never enough time to really ever finish them!

For my own work with digital art, I either have no set technique or perhaps no good or advisable technique. Perhaps its my left handedness but there is always mess and chaos in my work. I find it exceptionally hard to start a picture with a clean line drawing devoid of shadow or highlight at all. This is probably a fault in my own attempts to self-teach digital art. I love rougher brushes like woodcut brushes and overlay layers for washes but that is probably about as complex as i get. I have tried to learn about masks but I just do not understand how to use them, perhaps its that i have not seen enough about what they can do.

Demon Drummer design - still in working

So for now, i have as always a lot of concept images that are various stages of messy completion and there are a lot i am doing for other publishers but i cant really show those here

Scratchboard fun and The Nightmare Paintings

Holocaust in Utopia
Created as a Scratchboard etching

I love this medium, Scratchboard/Clayboard/Scraperboard. It can be effective in works of strong light and shadow contrast obviously and with some skill one could doe work to the level of Dore and his engravers. This was my first attempt at it, but i will be coming back to this more and more. Currently I am working on a image based on Emily Bronte's tragic and tormented story Wuthering Heights. This is the right medium for such a work, though one must prepare thoroughly as mistakes are difficult, if not impossible, to reverse in scratchboard.

On another more marvellous note, I have been invited to have works showing in an exhibition of Aleister Crowley's Nightmare Paintings. Myself, and several other artists, including Barry Hale, Nathan Hopkins and Corinne MacIain have created works based on some of the designs from the Nightmare and Heaven rooms from the Abbey of Thelema in Cefalu. The Abbey no longer exists as anything more than ruins, but Crowley had produced a beautiful and quite visionary tourist guide giving descriptions and deeper insights into the wall paintings there.
The exhibition is at Buratti Fine Art in North Fremantle, Western Australia and is running until late February 2013 if i recall correctly.

Love is the law, love under will.

October busy and much to do as ever!

So much I want to create and never enough time to do it and further learn and hone abilities. I think though it is good just put some of the things I working on for my own interests. There are several projects and commissions being done for others but for magickal purposes those cannot be viewed prematurely.

August 2012 BUSY TIME under Retrograde

Keeper of Secrets
CS6
Just something I had in mind, based on the Greater Daemon of Slaanesh in the Games Workshop Warhammer 40K Universe.

I am still not too savy with how this whole "artists" blog is supposed to flow, and what i am to show here. Undoubtedly a better order exists but for now i will just put up some of the pictures i am doing. Sorry, i don't really refer to myself as an artist, i am more like a beginner freelance illustrator.
